Met a lovely chatty girl who has Global Delay but in the mainstream... Her cognitive level fits neither mainstream nor special school. That is, she is too high functioning for special school, but too low to cope with our current fast paced mainstream curriculum.

There is seriously a service gap for kids like that and honestly there are more kids of this profile than MOE cares to admit.

Again, when they left i had a great sense of foreboding about what is going to happen to her. Staying in mainstream will crush her thus far free and cheery spirit. Going to special school will shortchange her.

Where can she go, really?

Makes me sad :(

*PS: I just realized that this post has nothing in it about being thankful..

I guess I am thankful that this girl has really supportive parents, who very clearly love her very much! :)
